Red Alert!! Man your battle

My dad’s old computer has given up the ghost! (It’s probably the power supply but could be the logic board, which means fixing it could cost $99 to $299.)

Now since my dad thinks like me, or vice versa, he would rather buy a new computer than spend any more money fixing up the old one (which is a dinosaur). Therein lies the problem. It is very likely that soon my dad will have a computer that is newer and faster than mine!!

Oh the humanity!

I have enjoyed a comfortable MHz lead for the last two years, now he is preparing to leapfrog my computer by about the same margin that I rocketed past his machine.

However, since my dad is cheap (thrifty, whatever), he will buy the bottom of the line G4/466. I, on the other hand, plan on buying a G4/500 upgrade for my Mac (someday, perhaps soon). This will give me a slight edge in raw CPU numbers but leave me lacking in various subsystems (i.e. video, memory, etc.). I will take whatever small lead I can get for the moment — which will keep the Earth spinning correctly on its axis — and continue waiting for just the right time to buy a completely new dual- or quad-processor machine, which will solidify my lead for another year or two.
