Spent the whole day at Strictly e-Business today. Beats workin’ for a livin, but not by much.

The Maroon doing the Mac OS X overview (ahem, ’slideshow’) was such a raging vortex of suckitude that I almost lost consciousness.

A major problem this year was a severe lack of tchotchke; although I did get the bouncing ball with the light in it, and a couple more letter openers.

further updates will have to wait until after ‘The Replacement Killers’ is over. Mira Sorvino is so cute.

So today was Payday. Through the miracle of modern technology we now have our available vacation hours printed right there on the check. It took years to get this little feature. I don’t know why.

Anywho, the insane part is this: I have a total of 284 vacation hours (including sick time and "floaters"). That’s seven weeks and four hours. I need to trim this down to… something significantly less, I think… before August when the new vacation policy becomes active, or I will lose _some_ of that vacation time that I’m not using. One wonders if I would ever notice?

It would appear that the only feasible solution will be to "take an f’ing vacation." Perhaps even two!

Sadly, I’m two months away from my 5 year anniversary. At that point I’m pretty sure that I’ll get even more vacation time.When will the madness end?

Speaking of less clothes, lately I’ve been getting my news from the fine group of Canadians over at NakedNews.com.

For my convenience, and yours, I have created a little shell script (getnaked) that downloads the QuickTime version of the news, minus the commercial segments. Make the script executable (chmod u+x getnaked) and run it once a day (Monday - Saturday).

Modifying it to download the RealVideo or WMP version is left as an exercise for the reader. It requires wget and Perl and will probably break if they change their web page format.

This means that the new Hitchhiker’s Guide movie will end up being almost, but not quite, entirely unlike what DNA intended — unless he was actually finished with the screenplay, which is unlikely.

I’ve got the original radio show playing in my CD changer right now. Perhaps later I’ll watch the TV series and the tape of his H2G2 reading "Live at the Almeida".
