Drat!

I am forced to decide between buying a house or buying a Segway at Amazon.

I think I’ll go for the house, it’ll be cheaper by the time the auction is done. Plus I’m not certain I could find a stupid rich person to buy the Segway from me for twice the price; not that I could buy it in the first place…”You want a loan for what? Bwahahahahaha!”I can’t be spending cash on trinkets though, I need to save up for another two or three months for a down payment on a house. Not that I’m actively looking or anything. I just wanna be chillin’ in the Central Air Conditioned goodness of Somewhere Else before the Big Heat of Summer rolls in.

And! My Big Ass TV (KV-35V36) is starting to show signs of dying a spectacular death, e.g. an apparent voltage surge followed by the screen going black. If I turn it off and back on it will be fine for 5 minutes or a few hours, depending on its mood and planetary alignment.

Apparently Sony’s Big Ass TVs have soldering issues (i.e. the soldering is bad), so it should be an easy enough fix for someone who will charge me upwards of $100 (or $500?). If it dies and will cost a lot to fix I’ll eventually get a different Big Ass TV — I will fail over to my redundant 20″TV if necessary (Oh the Humanity!).

Conveniently (that would be sarcasm) the TV weighs 198 lbs, so moving it is generally something that isn’t done.

The problem your Sony heap is having is probably four solder connections around the horizontal drive transformer. This will eventually kill the horizontal output transistor and the power supply.

The big question is why you would want another Sony ANYTHING!! I definitely tell my customers to not buy from them (or from Zenith, Thomson (RCA/GE/Proscan), Philips (also Philco and Magnavox), JVC or Mitsubishi. This is from over forty years experience repairing the damn things for profit (or not for profit in the case of many Sony s**tpiles).

Trash the ugly beast and buy from: Panasonic, Sharp, Sanyo, GoldStar (except the Zenith division), Samsung, Toshiba or Hitachi. Even cheap and mediocre brands, like Funai (also known as Symphonic, Emerson, or Sylvania) or Orion (also Sansui or World) run circles around the likes of Sony!! You couldn’t get worse quality if you went looking for it!! The big difficulty of fixing Sony garbage is not throwing up in the things during repair.
