Mostly Harmless

(aka: The Potato Post)

A couple of weeks ago at work, round about lunch time, I mentioned that was I headed out to pick up some fast food. One of the Tims, there are several, asked if I wouldn’t mind picking up some fries. No problem.

Then one of the other Tims wanted in on the action as well, so: more fries.

Since I had already planned on getting a combo and potato cakes on the side my order was now: Big Montana w/fries, fries, fries, and potato cakes.

I decided to go the extra mile and find yet another person who wanted fries. Success!

“Yes, I’ll have a combo with fries, an extra order of fries, potato cakes, and two more orders of fries, thank you.”

I am easily amused, as you may well know.

Further amusement: I was at The Great Steak and Potato Company ordering a Great Potato when the cashier asked me if I wanted to make it a combo. I said sure.

In other words: “Would you like fries with your baked potato?”

Sure, why the hell not?

My father is also easily amused. I said I had found some “store bought” mashed potatoes that were really good because they still had a few lumps in them. He laughed and made some comment about how mankind had been trying to get the lumps out of mashed potatoes for thousands of years and now people are putting them back in on purpose.

No one likes a smart ass.

All the news channels on TV are reporting that Senator Paul Wellstone’s chartered plane went down near Eveleth, MN, killing everyone: Paul Wellstone, his wife Sheila, daughter Marcia, three staff members and the two pilots.

So Sarah Michelle will be hosting SNL this weekend, she’ll also be on Conan O’Brien in about 10 minutes.

This reminds me that I need to retire the Buffy-O-Meter, because, basically, since I’ve downloaded every episode and will continue to get the new episodes the day they air, the bar graph will always be at 100% — only the little numbers will change, so that’s not terribly exciting. Also I am too lazy to keep updating the darn thing. (One may have argued that it wasn’t terribly exciting to begin with, especially if your browser sucked and drew the thing all wrong.)

Some people don’t want us to forget that Kristy Swanson was the original Buffy. Dude, the movie was like a hundred years ago, is that the only thing you can come up with? She’s been in other stuff since then.

OK — really freaky coincidence, Kristy Swanson just made a brief appearance on Craig Kilborn’s show, not more than 30 seconds ago. She just came out and hugged a guy and took off. WTF? I had the TV muted and it was in the PIP so I just caught the end of it… AND SHE’S ON AGAIN!!!! — OK where the hell was I… I’ve got Conan muted and Craig in the PIP. I can’t actually stand the “jokers” (not a pun) on NBC so I generally keep ‘em muted until the guests come out… which is now! Dig my timing! SMG looks good.

Question: Something I’m not in?

I just popped on over to VectorWorld and got clued into the fact that Vector is getting hitched.

I woulda figured that there would have been some sort of e-mail announcement or something, as I am amongst the circle of friends… not that I hang out with the guys on a regular basis, or even a semi-monthly basis… I need my space after all… maybe it’s because I’m fiercely independent, or maybe it’s because I’m a loner… but I digress.

I’ve only met the future Mrs. Vector once but she seems nice. She likes power tools and video games and has a pretty smile, what more do you want?
